The author the Sister Agatha mysteries, Reverend Jane Willan, does a wonderful job evoking the peaceful life of a rural Welsh Abbey. Of course, being a mystery, there is plenty of murder and mayhem. But like many of the best mystery authors, the whodunnit is second to the characters and their location. Louise Penny takes you to magical rural Quebec, Hammett’s Nick and Nora Charles show you the life of the pre-Depression rich, Grafton’s Kinsey Milhone shows the less glamorous side of being a small-time P.I. All wend their way through the requisite plot twists and turns, but like a truly excellent mystery author, Willan makes sure to take the scenic route getting there.
