Pripyat and Chernobyl

This haunting collection of photos, taken back in 2001, show the devastation of Pripyat, Ukraine brought on by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. While many areas are still far too radioactive, the occasional hardy soul will venture in to explore the abandoned city. Polidori shows the endless crumbling rows of apartment buildings, empty school rooms, and collapsing barns. And yet, many of the residents of the area wish to have the nuclear power plant restored as it was the main, if only, source of income for the area. A sad, dangerous warning to humanity about the dangers of unchecked nuclear power.
