Kill the Farm Boy

Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne

The Princess Bride meets Harvard Lampoon’s Bored of the Rings.

Popular fantasy authors Dawson and Hearne gleefully take a whack at every fairy tale trope in the (standard) book. After being informed by the pixie Staph that he is the The Chosen One, Worstely, aka “pooboy”  heads off with his talking goat to make his way in the world. It all falls apart when warrior Fia briefly runs into him at the enchanted, rose covered tower. Soon the quest takes a totally different turn and Fia, Dark Lord Toby, an enchanted bunny-girl, the goat and a cadre of others travel to take down the evil lord of the land (not to be confused with Dark Lord Toby). The meet seedy elves, gourmand giants, a witch bent on social justice, very clean Dwarves and highly unpleasant Trolls.

The plot is ridiculous, the writing hilarious and the puns painful. The front-piece map is worth checking out the book for on its own.
