Humans of London

Cathy Teesdale

Jay, formerly homeless, working at his new job.

Like her counter-part, Brandon Stanton’s book Humans of New York, Teesdale travels the streets of London taking photos of interesting individuals and taking short interviews.  Many are mundane – mums in the sun with babies, people on the way to work.  More often though, they are extremely touching. There’s the group of widows that take a weekly walk together, the little boys weaving bracelets that they sell for charity, various protestors and a handful of the homeless. These in particular stand out as Teesdale uses the clout of the internet and her facebook page to raise money through crowd-sourcing for some of these individuals.  She checks back on their wonderful progress. This is a lovely way to pay back the gift of taking a portrait.
