History as They Saw It

Iconic Moments from the Past In Color
Wolfang Wild & Jordan Lloyd

This wide-ranging collection of colorized photos gives a rare glimpse into the past. Photography has been around for a surprisingly long time. The first self-portrait was taken in 1839, almost 30 years before the American Civil War. There are portraits of people born in the mid-1700s, old enough to have lived through the French Revolution! So it is no surprise that these images intrigue and draw us in.

History as They Saw It has no particular theme, per se, other than showcasing both famous and rare images, colorized to make them more accessible to modern viewers. Each photo includes a description of participants and events. Included in an index are the original, uncolorized images for compare.
